By car: From South and West (A12/A604): Exit A12 onto the A604 (s/p Cambridge A604). Turn right at roundabout (s/p Lexden, Mersea A604) into Essex Yeomanry Way. At Tollgate roundabout, take 2nd exit (s/p Lexden, Mersea) into London Road. After 09 miles turn right (by NatWest Bank on left hand side, s/p Mersea) into Straight Road. To double roundabout after 1.2 miles. Go straight on into Gosbecks Road. After 0.3 miles turn left into Layer Road. There is good parking in this area. From North (A12 from Ipswich): On Saturdays it can be as quick to continue on the A12 to the junction with the A604, then picking up directions from South and West. The route below skirts the town centre but traffic can be heavy: Exit A12 at s/p Colchester A1232, Harwich, Clacton A120 onto Ipswich Road. Follow Colchester/Town Centre A1232 signs for 2.6 miles. Follow Town Centre signs over double roundabouts. Pass Rose and Crown on left hand side and turn right at roundabout into East Bay. At mini-roundabout after 0.2 miles turn left (n/s) into Brook Street. (NB For Goat and Boot pub, go straight on instead). At lights turn right into Magdalen Street. After 0.5 miles, straight on at roundabout (by Town Centre station) onto Southway dual carriageway. Left at next roundabout (s/p Maldon B1022, Layer). After 0.9 miles filter left before lights by Burmah garage into Drury Road. After 0.3 miles, turn sharp right by Drury Arms into Layer Road.
By rail: From Railway Station (Colchester North): At 2.0 miles, it's quite a hike.Turn right out of station, down to main road, turn right. 2nd exit at roundabout (s/p Clacton A133) and 2nd exit at next roundabout (by The Albert Beefeater, s/p Town Centre) into Station Road. Walk up hill, straight on at junction up North Hill and into Head Street. Take subway under the dual carriageway into Butt Road, passing Salvation Army building on left. Past the Salisbury Hotel and left at junction by Drury Arms into Layer Road.
An alternative idea is to take a train to Colchester Town Centre, which is about a mile nearer the ground, as well as being two minutes walk from the shops/pubs/restaurants. Stopping trains from London stop here, as do trains from Colchester North to Clacton.
Trouble Factor: Unless you support Ipswich or Southend you will struggle to find any problems at this friendly ground.

Car Parking: It's street-parking, and hard to come by. If you're an early arriver then try Drury Road or Layer Road, out to the south past the ground. The latter is a particularly good area. If you're late you will find a spot eventually, but expect a good ten minute walk. Don't park in the army housing estate - you've been warned.
Pubs: There's only one pub near the ground, The Drury Arms, on the corner of Drury Road and Layer Road. The good news is it welcomes both home and away fans. It does have a tendancy to refuse large groups of visitors wearing colours. Ten minutes walk from the ground is The Dragon on Military Road. It's in the Good Beer Guide and serves great food as well.
Food: Either The Dragon (see pubs) or the city centre.
